This song portrays love with several metaphors, some of which are highlighted below:
  1. "... wherever we met, time stood still." Time stood still is a sensation many poets have written about; the particular manner Deepak Chopra describes this feeling regarding love comes to mind.
  2. "Forgetting the [rest of the] world, I have met you. This wish has come forth of my heart ... that you give me — i.e., my life — the gerua color ...". Color is how many people describe liveliness, equating colorlessness with lack of life.
  3. "... I am the caravan, you are the destination to which every path leads." Bollywood lyricists equate the state of love to a desirable destination including, of course, the ultimate destination of reaching God.
Nice music, invites repeated listening.

Yash Chopra breathed his last on week ago today. This post is to recall his contribution to romance cinema.
To be able to be comfortable with oneself is a valuable trait. The poet notes here, through the female lover, that being in love is capable of turning even 'being alone' into a comfortable state.

Nice melody, nice drums or tabla. After listening to this song, I became aware this was Shah Rukh Khan's debut film in Bollywood, and Divya Bharti died soon thereafter.

Notice how the male declares his love:
तेरी चाहत की चांदनी मेरी आँखों में बस गयी
Translation: The wish for you — as the moon — is fixated in my eye ...

An interesting description of being in a state of love.
"...बेचैनियों में चैन, न जाने क्यों, आने लगा..."
The singer sings "I don't know why I find peace even when I am consumed by lack of peace." Anyone who has experienced romantic love can probably relate to this seemingly anomalous statement.

The imagination that the lovers have on how they have fallen in love is a beautiful expression. Although real life love may not always be able to be expressed in such glorious terms, it is useful to see such possibilities.

It seems like there is no match for Javed Akhtar, the lyricist.

The reunited lovers describe how they have been separated for most of their youthful years -- another Yash Chopra love story. "दिल में मगर, जलते रहे, चाहत के दिये", what a powerful sentiment!

Another Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol number, song and dance, ... Bollywood has an interesting way to describe love. For example, in this song, the female lover declares:
"You called out, ... I came ...
What promise is bigger than love?"

The poet brings out a recall of unhappy events, and a plea to God to produce justice, by the character in the film.

Other singers of this song are Shankar Mahadevan & Adnan Sami. (I could not fit these names in the Labels field). That Shankar Mahadevan has brought out a musical piece that sounds like an original Arabic singer's rendering, is a testament to the universal nature of music and, of course, to Shankar's musical abilities.

The use of the term 'God' in Bollywood lyrics is quite frequent. This song is from the film Its use in this song appears unique in the sense that the lover claims to see 'God' in his or her mate. Makes you wonder whether the Bollywood lyricists routinely go through a Vedanta course.

The first few lines of this song are very perceptive of the lyricist in bringing out the feelings that may exist in the former lovers of a separation, or divorce, that is about to happen.
