A mother wishes a child well, in spite of her own difficulties, through lilting music. I selected this song to be included here, after I listened to Raag Bhoopali rendered by Vijay Prakash.

The reunited lovers describe how they have been separated for most of their youthful years -- another Yash Chopra love story. "दिल में मगर, जलते रहे, चाहत के दिये", what a powerful sentiment!

दिल चीज़ क्या है, आप मेरी जान लीजिये

The listener is struck by the simplicity of the woman's plea, with abandon. "You ask for my heart? Why don't you take my life [which is dearer] ..."

A man is dejected because of betrayal by his friend.

Nice elaboration of how a woman feels when she recognizes she is in love.

In a recent web surf to find Kannada songs based on classical ragas, I ran into this song from yesteryears, based on raag ♫पहाड़ी. There is already a nice Kannada presentation of the lyrics on the web, and hence you won't find any here.

बनाके क्यों बिगाड़ा रे

A woman who has suffered an ill-fated incident in her life questions whether she can trust God. Why? Because of the injustice meted out to her (by God, she thinks).

No collection of songs would be complete if the most favorite bhajan of Mahatma Gandhi were not included. October 2 is Mahatma Gandhi's birthday. The song goes on to define what a Vaishnav, i.e., a liberated one, is by elaborating on various characteristics of such an individual.
