It appears that the female lover is pleading that the lover must not leave ... but, the pleading can be between any two human beings, particularly if the intensity of the sentiment is very strong and deep: ... हाय मर जाएंगे, हम तो लुट जाएंगे ... (I'll die if you leave, I'll be devastated ...)

Lyrics are rendered with almost every word getting its full import by the manner in which it is sung.

The feeling imparted by Arijit in his singing is immensely felt by the listener.

A male lover reminisces, with sadness.

तेरी मेरी मेरी तेरी प्रेम कहानी है मुश्किल

"When we are made for each other, we got separated from each other" — each lover sings to the other in sadness and desperation. And, then each goes on to elaborate on that one theme.

You can see intense collusion between Bollywood's storywriters and lyricists. It almost seems that each feeds the other inexorably in creating the final product, the movie.

नीला आसमाँ सो गया (female)

This is the Lata Mangeshkar version that sings about lost love.

"The night got killed when the moon disappeared in [my] tears.
Loneliness is what fills in [the rest of my] life"

The music punctuates the narration of the story nicely to bring out the emotion. You can relish the male version here.

I had heard this song some years ago, and was pleasantly surprised to find it on YouTube.

This song describes the sentiment when lovers [have to] drift apart. The instrumental melody itself is very hummable. This song must have been so popular that it has garnered a Wikipedia article.

तेरे लिए, हम हैं जिए

The reunited lovers describe how they have been separated for most of their youthful years -- another Yash Chopra love story. "दिल में मगर, जलते रहे, चाहत के दिये", what a powerful sentiment!

A man is dejected because of betrayal by his friend.
